It’s not like I bounce checks all the time. I’m pretty diligent about making sure I can pay my monthly bills. But last week, I screwed up and bounced a check. An online check. So here’s what happened and here’s how I rectified the whole situation:
My credit card bill was due for $100 and being the diligent good debtor that I am, I went online and made a request for a payment on the credit card company’s website, totally forgetting that I already had that automatically set up to pay every month. So last week, the credit card company tried to pull $100 twice. I had only enough money in my bank account to cover $100 so the second attempt to pull the other $100 resulted in Insufficient Funds! Not only did my bank bilk me a $25 bounced check fee, but my credit card company charged me the fee too. That’s fifty smackers! I’ll admit, it was totally my fault for being a bimbo about the whole thing. It’s not like I had recently set up the monthly auto-pay on my credit card. It’s been doing that for months if not a year at least. I don’t know why I forgot. Still, $50!? So I emailed my bank and the credit card company asking them to give me back my $25. I totally admitted to being a dumbass and they kindly refunded the monies.
Moral of the story, be careful if you use automatic payments. Keep track of what’s what. And if you ever screw up like I did, just ask and they’ll forgive you.
haha someones losing their memory
My mom got charged like $25 in late fees cuz her check get to the credit card company in time. Turns out it was one day late -_- My mom never misses a payment, so she was off the roof on this one.
Of course, when I call, they just lecture me about how she can pay online or over the phone or blah blah blah…and i’m just like my mom’s old school. She feels more comfortable with paper-copy-in-her-hand-everything. So everytime I tried asking NICELY for the return, I got a, sorry-I-can’t-do-that-for-you speech. Sooo I just kept calling back, getting a new person, and hoping for the best. Man, being nice really didn’t help, cuz I just ended up getting pissed at every person. Even the “well such and such bank is always nice enough to help me out” didn’t work…sooo eventually i just asked for their supervisor and she was oh so kind enough to return the money. stupid people.
haha… I didn’t realize I was gonna go on a rant. I probably could’ve put this in my lonesome blog as an entry. Oh well, too late. lol.
Kudos to you for doing that, and for your persistence. These banks can be such hypocrites. They have us (tax payers) bailing out their butts and they hold our noses to the letter of their ridiculous fees and charges. Unless that particular credit card is kickass, I would shop around too. But then again, it could just throw your mom off her usual schedule so…
