While my parents were out of town, my dad entrusted his beloved orchids to me for two weeks. Clearly this was a mistake as they have all but frozen. In my overzealous attempt to save natural resources and a few bucks (I got the bill, I saved about $50), I may have done these poor plants in. I don’t know if they’ll make it but my dad’s been trying to revive them ever since he got back. They sure look pitiful don’t they? At least now I know their threshold for cold tolerance: not 45 degrees Fahrenheit!

A smarting ear, more earrings, and shoes
Friday morning when I was poking these things into my ears, I aimed wrong and scratched the hole in my ear. So I’m going to give em a rest this weekend. Back to my studs.
Friday night, I went shopping and got these babies! It was so hard picking and choosing and having to whittle it down to just four pairs. There were at least 4 or 5 other pairs I really liked. Plus they’re from Vermont! It’s hard to find American made handicrafts these days outside of arts fairs or farmers’ markets.
And when I walked into the mall I only said I wasn’t going to buy any more clothes. But I didn’t say anything about shoes.
There’s no such thing as too many pairs of earrings or too many pairs of shoes.

The Daily Kvetch
I hate school. With a passion. My writing juices are dried up. I can barely piece together a sentence. And I have to study an exam where I must use my worthless powers of memorization. How I struggle with that skill. I hated the game memory as a kid and I couldn’t memorize the multiplication table past the 2s. Someone bonk me on the head and put me out.

Movies
I watched two movies this weekend.
Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist - Norah likes Nick. Nick thinks he likes another chick. Later, he comes to his senses and likes Norah. I liked it. Fun dialog and funny and romantic at the same time. There’s this very very disgusting scene though. Blech – unnecessary.
P.S. I Love You - Wonderful but sad movie. It sort of evokes feelings similar to Sparks’ The Notebook. Very bittersweet and heartwarming. This woman, played by Hilary Swank, has a husband who gets sick and dies. Before he dies though, he plots a scheme where his soon-to-be widow will receive letters from him throughout the year after his death. It’s seems kinda’ morbid the way I explain it but it’s actually very romantic.

Moral of the story: Get Cluck-U wings for your wedding reception
Yesterday, I went to my coworker Ann’s wedding. The ceremony was at the UM chapel so I enjoyed the visit to the campus as I walked through it to get to the chapel. I felt older and younger at the same time, reliving my college years and yet no longer an undergrad.
Because there was a two hour wait between the ceremony and reception, I wanted to go to Cluck-U Chicken to try their famous wings. It’s something I probably should’ve done a long time ago as a student, but eh, I was never a wing person. Even so, I’d say this was the best meal of the day. The fries were so crispy and delicious too!
So the reception was in short, very long. We started with hors d’oevres of samosas, mini quiches, tandoori chicken, and drinks. Then when we all piled into the dining room, the show began. And was it a show. First they announced the bridal party. 3 maids of honor, 3 best men, 5 bridesmaids, 5 groomsmen, flowergirls, etc later, I was thinking, thank goodness I had the wings before dinner. That was just the beginning though. Second there were speeches. Then dance shows courtesy of the brides young cousins and nieces, singing, more speeches, and finally, a photo show with background music. The reception started at 5PM, we didn’t start getting dinner until closer to 8PM. I was really looking forward to the Indian food but I think they blanded down the curries and flavors, probably to cater to the masses. Kinda’ disappointing to me since I love Indian food. The evening ended with dancing and a delicious red velvet cake.
But the point to all this is, the chicken wings at Cluck-U were better than the fancy wedding foods. So in conclusion, if you’re planning a wedding, think about getting Cluck-U’s chicken wings and skip the fancy. Your guests will love you.
