Light bulbs

29 February 2008

At 6ish in the morning, when a bulb bums out, you don’t really care if the replacement matches any of the other bulbs. You just use the first one you can get your hands on. Especially since you’re so light-deprived these days. Of course after you turn the lights on, then it dawns on you what a mess of lights your bathroom has and you grab your camera and click, click, click away. By you, I mean I.
Light bulbs
I know what you’re thinking now. (By you, I mean you.) Compact fluorescent light bulbs have mercury. I’m not sure about the disposal. I’m not sure about mandating the use of these in the future. I just can’t wait for LED bulbs to show up in stores. Disposal won’t be an issue because they’ll last forever.  I’m sure.

Happy Leap Day!

Let this month be over!

28 February 2008

February. Winter. Cold. Dark. Wet. I am seasonally affected. I need it to be April or May like by tomorrow. Why did we have to have this one extra day!?! Why can’t it have been March 0, 2008? Even THAT would be an improvement to February 29. The only saving grace is that it falls on a Friday.

A couple of years ago, a woman at my office said to me as I was lamenting how far away the weekend seemed to be (it was a Wednesday I believe) “Be careful. You don’t want to wish your life away.” It made me pause and think, yeah, ok it may be Wednesday, my boss may be drunk and about to rip me a new one any minute, but I’m still thankful to be here and have a support group at work. Plus, Wednesdays happen to be a Farmer’s Market day. Always a treat! Now whenever I long for the future to come sooner, I think about what she said to me. I guess it doesn’t matter one way or the other. Time doesn’t speed up or slow down. But at least I sort of stop to remember to appreciate the present. Seriously though… please!! Let this month be over.

Girl Scout Cookies

27 February 2008

Why do Girl Scout cookies taste so good? Let’s analyze this cookie by cookie.

Thin Mints – Arguably the best of the bunch. They’re a simple chocolatey minty Oreo-like cookie without the creme filling. Like an Andes in cookie form. I am capable of eating a roll by myself in one sitting. I don’t. Anymore.

Samoas – These would be the best, but I can’t eat as many of them in one sitting as I can the Thin Mints. That is the only reason why they’re second on my list. If you like Twix, you’ll like Samoas.

Trefoils – Typical shortbread cookies. I’ve had better. Lorna Doones for instance.

TagalongsTagalongs – Peanut butter chocolate cookies. Not my fave. (This after I just stuffed one in my face a minute ago. I guess I should translate, “Not my fave” means you can pry the box out of my hands without too much fight.)

Lemon Coolers – They don’t make them anymore so I don’t know why I put them on the list.

And mercy me, that’s thankfully all the evil I’ve been exposed to thus far. I didn’t order cookies this year and yet they’ve managed to find me. Samoas, Thin Mints, and Tagalongs. Axis of Evil.

Origami whiz
I’m out of coffee filters. Luckily, I was a diligent pupil in the art of origami during my younger years so was able to effortlessly craft a #4 size cone filter out of a paper towel. It’s going to taste like bleach but I don’t think anyone will notice that extra flavor enhancement at 6:30 in the morning.

I could run to the store to buy filters but that would make sense.

Ribeye for Dinner

24 February 2008

Yum!! I haven’t had steak in a while.
Yum!!

Just grilled with salt and cracked pepper. After making the steak, I grilled slices of vidalia in the bits of good stuff the steak left behind.

I need a nap now. zzZZZzzz

I went SHOPPING!!

23 February 2008

Holy cow I had no idea I was craving shopping until I actually went shopping. There are just so many things coming at you. Bags, wallets, shirts, sweaters, skirts, shoes, wacky stockings, everything! I didn’t plan on getting anything but you know how that goes. Well maybe you don’t, but I do. It never fails, I find a cute pair of jeans which accentuate whatever it is I happen to be focusing on in the mirror, usually done by some illusionary dramatic lighting in the dressing rooms. Then boom… I’m at the check out line getting yet another pair of cute jeans. Ahh… I’m melting in a puddle of shopping bliss. Let me just wallow in it a bit longer. At least until the credit card bill arrives.

Didn’t get jeans this time. I got shoes!! They look great with jeans or work pants. Go me!

Lunar Eclipse

20 February 2008

Lunar Eclipse 10:47 PM

It’s freezing cold tonight; snowed earlier today. I only caught this sliver before I ran back inside. Thankfully, the night’s been relatively clear. Right now, the moon is fully eclipsed. Going to take another picture when it starts to peek back.

Went to look at the moon just now and comparing it to this photo, it’s not like this picture at all. This picture looks like any normal waxing moon. In reality, seeing the eclipse, you can still make out the border of the full moon. It’s partially lit, sort of shadowed but not completely blacked out. Very neat effect.

A Case of the Gimmes

18 February 2008

Y’know when you get a song stuck in your head, sometimes you don’t even realize you’re singing and humming?

So I was all “Gimme-gimme, <more> gimme, <more> gimme-gimme <more>.” And my mom goes, “WHAT do you want?” :p Man that song gets stuck in my head all the time!

At least I covered my daily art for Lent. Britney is art right? Hey, if sparkly eyeliner counts, then this does too. I make the rules.

I’m Published!
