Last month, Dubbya vetoed a children’s health-insurance program, which was going to be funded by a $0.61/pack tobacco tax. I can sort of understand that. He is who he is. (I’ve been trying to adopt a more “live, let live” attitude about things. How’m I doin’? Meh - don’t answer that.)
Now why am I having such a hard time understanding how Oregon let this slide? Why did Oregon follow suit and vote against funding a children’s healthcare program with tobacco taxes? Their measure would have been $0.84/pack going towards the program. Granted the tobacco tax isn’t exactly a reliable source of funding since it’s not exactly a health product that keeps the smokers alive and paying, but money is money. Take it… or not.
