Cousin Once Removed

This is Clare. She’s 2 years old and she’s my cousin’s kid. Even though I’ve met her before, I don’t know Clare. I don’t know if she’s silly, patient, stubborn, or shy. Here’s what I do know:

Awwww, that Clare is cute! :)
She’s our first cousin once removed (the whole removed thing is about how many generations different you are) because my grandparents are her great grandparents. (First) cousins are when grandparents are the same. First cousin twice removed would be if for example my grandparents are someone’s great great grandparents. Second cousins would be if great grandparents are the same (like my kids and Clare would be second cousins). So on and so forth. I think. :p

I like to call her my niece cos it makes more sense to me. Actually I’m just more used to the Chinese way of naming kinship relationships. Or whatever that stuff is called. Cos it’s way hecka hard to figure out this X cousins N removed thing!
