I watched through maybe 1/4 of The Pianist and just could not finish the movie. It was so sad and horrifying, I couldn’t stomach it. Tried fast fowarding through some scenes but that didn’t help either. I can only think of a handful of movies I haven’t been able to finish. Actually right now, I can only think of 2001: A Space Odyssey (though I might have fast forwarded this one to the end, I can’t remember), and Dumb & Dumber.
The Pianist is based on a true story about a famous Polish pianist, Wladyslaw Szpilman, and the ordeals he and other Warsaw Jews went through during World War II. Although it was well written and well made, this is one hard movie to watch.
wow, really? we saw this in sept apparently (thanks, rental history @ netflix)… i don’t remember it being that hard to watch… there is a lot of hope and there are some sweet moments…
the hardest movie i’ve ever watched was once were warriors, i cried for hours after. but it was amazing. this was back in like 99 though, i don’t know if i could watch it again.
It was just the cruelty I couldn’t bear to see. I felt like I’d fast forward through one awful scene only to get through 10 seconds for the next one. The music was good though sad.
Hmmm, maybe I’ll add Once Were Warriors on my queue.
do you use netflix?
I use Intelliflix. They’re a tiny bit cheaper than Netflix I believe, but from talking to people who use Netflix, they seem slower. It works for me since I’m not really looking to watch movie after movie. I like the breaks in between.
