Finally returned to the U.S. today. Woohoo!! As much fun as I had in Australia, I did miss our lovely country. I miss shops opening past 4 or 5 PM. I’m chilling in California for the rest of today and flying home tomorrow morning. The flight home wasn’t so bad except for the 3 hour delay we had to suffer on the stifling hot plane due to engine and air conditioner malfunctions. They were going to replace a part on one of the engines, but the mechanics tinkered around and figured it out. I watched a lot of movies there and back. There: Marie Antoinette – good, Borat – hilarious (but ya’ll knew that), Babel – eh ok I suppose, but some disturbing scenes. Back: The Queen – okay, Volver – very good, L’equipier – also pretty good. I think I would’ve enjoyed all of the movies more had I been able to hear what they were saying. The headsets just don’t work well. Wish they all had subtitles! I ended up watching foreign films because those were all subtitled. As consistent with these past 2 weeks of gluttonous feasting, we went to Kirala for dinner tonight and I am so full I can barely breathe.

Hello from Australia! The weather here has been beautiful, I would say about 90s to 70s. So far, I’ve visited Cairns and am now in Adelaide. Below is a dish of fried crocodile and prawns we got from the Red Ochre Restaurant in Cairns. Croc is sort of tough and fairly bland. The dipping sauce helped. It was not bad, I liked it. We also tried kangaroo (aka “Skippy”) and emu. Emu has a gamey taste. Kangaroo is almost like beef in texture but isn’t really all that flavorful. I think I liked croc the best.
